A prayer for my children.

Shiloh, I pray that you enjoy being part of our family as much as we will enjoy adding you to it.

Spencer, I pray that you love every second of being a big brother and that you never forget that you were our first. You made us so happy that we decided to have another baby who we could love just as much as we love you.

I pray that no matter where life takes you both, that you will always be close and be able to count on each other.

I pray that you grow up knowing Christ and who you are in Christ. Not just reciting Bible verses or attending church every Sunday, but truly understanding and experiencing a relationship with God that transforms your heart and your life. 2 Corinth. 5:17, Romans 12:2

I pray for you to be strong but to also know that it’s ok to be weak and not have it all together all the time. 2 Corinth. 12:9

I pray that you are never afraid to do the right thing, even when it’s hard. And that when you do mess up (like everyone does), you never once doubt the love that we have for you and that God has for you. 1 John 4:18

Shiloh, I pray that you see beauty for what it truly is and not how the world around you defines it. Don’t ever feel like your clothes, hair, or makeup are what make you attractive or define you as a woman. 1 Peter 3:3

I pray that you care more about what God thinks of you than what any boy or girl thinks of you. Value your body and your heart and never forget your worth. Anyone who makes you question that is not worth your attention. 1 Corinth. 6:19

I pray that you have discernment to know what is truth and what isn’t. That you won’t believe lies about following your heart, only pursuing your own happiness, and doing whatever makes you feel good. Our hearts are deceitful above all else – don’t follow your feelings, follow Jesus. Jeremiah 17:9, Matthew 6:33, Colossians 2:7

As morbid as it sounds, I pray that you recognize the brevity and fragility of life and make the most of every day you’re given. Ecclesiastes 7:2

I pray that you never think you’re better than anyone else. Don’t let petty things like politics, different beliefs, or appearances divide you or lead you to have a holier than thou attitude. Always, always choose compassion and love, while not compromising on truth. Philippians 2:4, Galatians 6:3, James 4:12

I pray that you have enough confidence in who you are and what you believe that you’re not afraid to step out of your comfort zone and build relationships with people who don’t look or think like you. Luke 6:32

I pray that you learn about and experience abundant grace. I pray that we model that for you in our home and that you can extend that grace to others, but also accept it for yourself. Romans 11:6, Hebrews 4:16

Above all else, I pray that your lives are a testimony to the faithfulness of God and that everything you do is to build up His kingdom, not your earthly one. Choose God’s will for your life first, and everything else will fall into place. Matthew 16:25, Romans 11:36, Luke 12:31
