18 months.

Spencer is now 18 months old… how are we seriously 6 months away from his 2nd birthday?? Time flies and this momma wants to cry.

His 18 month checkup isn’t until next week, so I’m not sure on his weight/height. His last checkup he was 27 pounds and 34 inches, and I honestly feel like he’s grown more. He looks gigantic in my arms now 😂

He has two molars all the way in and 8 regular teeth. He’s cutting another molar currently and I’m guessing some more regular teeth. He’s like a rabid animal if you try to inspect his mouth at all.

His sleeping…um. We went through a real rough patch. But last night he slept through the entire night (9:30-6:30) in his crib, which is amazing and hopefully becomes a pattern. He’s getting so heavy that it’s really uncomfortable to let him fall asleep on me. His naps are a little more unpredictable.

Favorite foods… he’s gotten kind of picky, which irritates me. He refuses vegetables unless they’re in a soup/stew. He refuses most things, actually, even if he was just begging for it and previously always loved it. When he doesn’t want something, he starts frantically throwing all of his food on the floor and yelling “out! Out!” to be let down from the high chair. He does love strawberries, pasta (aka “noo noos”), and Gerber Lil Meals. 🙄 He also LOVES stealing bites of our cereal (aka “see see”). He’s obsessed with crackers, especially Cheezits or goldfish.

His vocabulary has grown immensely. He communicates pretty well, actually! He picks up a new word almost every day, it seems like. His favorite words right now are “no,” “stick” (which he pronounces geeeek), “bus,” “bite,” and “munny,” which is how he pronounces both bunny and muddy. He loves animals and can now differentiate between them instead of assuming everything with 4 legs is a doggy. He has also learned a lot of body parts and will point to them: hair, eyes, ears, nose, teeth/mouth, belly, knees, toes/feet.

He’s gotten very particular and tries to get his way with everything. His favorite music in the car is a Twenty One Pilots CD and he will whisper “yea yea yea,” then start wailing until we turn the CD on.

He loooooves books now. Still has a big issue with chewing the covers/binding off, but he also just loves being read to. He doesn’t like if you read all the words though, because really he’s just interested in pointing at the pictures and saying the sounds they make or identifying them. He carries his books around saying “boot, boot” and if you don’t immediately pick up the book, he starts shaking and screams BOOOOOOT BOOOOOOOT. He will also throw the book or hit us with it if we don’t start reading.

He’s very sociable and loves when people will say hi back to him. He stands at our screen door every morning now saying hi and bye bye to all the neighbors on their way to work. He also loves cashiers but will freeze when they talk to him, until we start walking away. I need to get him around other kids more, because at the playground he never seems interested in playing with other kids. He loves to watch them though.

Church is getting a lot better now because he finally enjoys going to his class. He still cries a little when we drop him off but he always has fun and is smiling when we pick him back up. He brings papers home now that he colored or have his lesson for the week. 😂 it’s adorable and I hang them on the fridge.

His favorite toys… he has a trampoline now, which he loves to jump on. He loves cars, trucks, boats… anything he can zoom around on the carpet. He loves bubbles and playing in the bathtub. Our apartment pool is opening this weekend and I’m so excited to take him swimming. He loves being outside and loves water.

Sometimes I miss him being a little baby, but to be totally honest, there are a lot of things about being a one year old that we enjoy so much more. He’s so much more interactive and fun to play with. Jordan is enjoying this age a lot.
