For you, my sweet son, I wish so many things. Here are just a few.
1) That you never, ever doubt our love for you or God’s love for you. No matter what.
2) A childhood (and adolescence) free of overwhelming schedules and overuse of technology. You only get to be a kid once, and I don’t want to see you waste it on some activity that requires you to give up all of your free time, and I sure don’t want you to waste it with your eyes glued to a glowing screen.
3) Confidence to take chances and go for it, but also comfort in knowing your momma will be right there to catch you when you fall.
4) I pray you find friends who will help you draw closer to God and keep you moving forward.
5) A positive attitude. No matter what.
6) Right now, you completely lack discrimination when it comes to smiling at people and showing them kindness. I wish it would always be that way. No matter what you experience or how the world tells you to react to people, I pray you will always be kind and loving to everyone you meet. No matter what they look like or what they’ve done or what their beliefs are.
7) On that note, don’t be afraid to befriend people who are different from you. People who look, act, and believe differently. Diversity is beautiful and you can learn valuable lessons from people without compromising your own values.
8) Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions or speak up when something seems wrong. Ask lots of questions, because when questions don’t get asked, they can get bottled up inside and eat away at you.
9) A childhood filled with memories with both of your parents. Parents who are modeling a healthy, loving relationship for you.
10) Opportunities to learn and grow and play and discover who God made you to be.
